Task 3. Spark in forward flight.
After coordinating with the CAs and faculty, experiment with flying the drone in forward flight. The location for these initial flights will be Lake Lagunita and will follow the safety tutorials and flight demonstrations.
- Conducted flights at Lake Lagunita in accordance with safety briefing and SUAVE standards. Flight path depicted below in Figure 1.3.1. Note that Figure 1.3.1 shows the maximum forward speed achieved by the Spark during this flight: 48.1 km/h.
Use any available data from the drone or Remote Control to estimate the power that is used at two different forward speeds.
Compare this with the hover power estimate if that is available.
- Data downloaded from the drone was analysed following independent forward flight tests, and is attached below in Figure 1.3.2. The useful transport (shown in the last column) is maximised at the maximal speed.
